African Tailblazers

"The people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits"                                                                     Dan 11:32

We are the Mangion family, currently based in Johannesburg,  South Africa, about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime!

Three years ago we purchased a brand new 3 ton 4 X4 Mitsubishi Canter.  The aim being to coach build the body into a custom motor home, with enough storage space for Pierre's equipment.  As soon as  it is complete we will sell our home and travel up through Africa.

Our plan thus far is to set off up the west side of Africa via the Richtersveld into Namibia, and on up through Botswana.  We will travel up through to West Africa and back down the east side.   There are two foundations who are interested in using us to distribute mosquito nets for them as we travel, with the idea of sending a TV crew with.

This project has been a long time in the planning and building, we are currently 2 years behind schedule, but are now within 6 months of completion of the project and the excitement is mounting, so it's now time to share with you a little about ourselves and the project in hand!

Pierre and Claire met on a mission station in the middle of Mozambique in 1993 and have been married for 17 years.

Claire is a physiotherapist in private practice,  working with both in and out patients in neurosurgery.

Pierre is a very skilled motor mechanic, fitter and turner, welder and tool maker, currently running his own business refurbishing and overhauling classic cars.

We have 2 children, Joshua (16) and Isaac (13) who are currently home schooling in preparation for the impending trip.  In addition we have 3 dogs, who of course, being part of the family will travel with us!
